Nebraska Section Hosts Its First Order of the Engineer Induction

At the Nebraska Section’s Annual Meeting on May 16, 2003, twelve members of ASCE were inducted into the Order of the Engineer.

Rick Kaufmann, P.E., the Section’s outgoing newsletter editor, first approached the board members about hosting an induction after hearing about the Order from a colleague last winter. The idea was met with enthusiasm, as several board members who attended the Zone III Leadership Conference in Dallas last February had heard about the Order from Pat Galloway, ASCE President- Elect. The incoming newsletter editor, Peggy Meyers, was already a member.

Kaufmann contacted Dr. Larry Ehlers, who is with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.  Dr. Ehlers is the Order of the Engineer governor for the Nebraska Link. He and Loren Steenson, P.E., a long-time member of the Order, presided over the induction ceremony that took place as part of the evening’s festivities.

The inductees included several officers and board members of the Nebraska Section, professional engineers, engineer interns, and Younger Members. The Section hopes to offer the Order of the Engineer induction as a regular part of its Annual Meeting in future years.
