NE ASCE YMG & BOY SCOUTS EXPLORE!
Design-Build Competition
Saturday, November 22, 2003
With the help of the Boy Scouts staff, six ASCE volunteers helped plan the event, and nine students from the UNL ASCE Chapter came up to help on the day of the event. Over 20 participants, mostly freshmen, sophomores, and-juniors in high school, learned a little bit about buoyancy before being unleashed with a variety of materials to build boats. After preliminary judging was completed, the boats were taken down to the pool, where they were loaded with weights. Scores (which included points for items used, style, and amount of weight the boat handled without sinking) were tabulated and the winning pair took home rachet sets.

One of the boats is loaded... several of the boats were so well made we had to fill more milk cartons with water since we ran out of weights!
