Proposed Governance Changes
This issue was on the Summer 2004 ballot (June ASCE News)... if you missed any of the information prior to the vote, here it is
Current ASCE Structure (short version):
In the US, ASCE is divided into four Zones and 15 Districts. The Nebraska Section is part of District 16, along with Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Zone III is comprised of Districts 8, 15, and 16, which include North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. Each Zone has a Vice President, and every four years, Zone III nominates someone for President. By giving each Zone an official nominee every four years, the ASCE President does not always come from one of the coastal population centers. Each District has at least one Director that represents their District's interests to the Board of Direction. Presently, Bob Thorn is Zone III's VP, and the District 16 Directors are Stein Sture and Chuck Tiltrum. More information on the current structure can be found within the documents linked below.
Zone III Younger Member Council 2004
In February 2004, the Zone III Younger Member Council met in Chicago, IL. We discussed a resolution on the proposed governance changes, but determined that we did not have enough information at this point to support a specific redistricting plan at this point. At this point, they have not decided on a specific redistricting plan. However, it looks like they are favoring an option that would not break current district relationships. After the meeting, the Younger Member Group Chairs/Presidents received some additional information to take back to our respective groups.
