Regional & National ASCE Information
ASCE Structure Transition:
Previously, ASCE was divided into four Zones and 15 Districts. The Nebraska Section was part of District 16, along with Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Zone III is comprised of Districts 8, 15, and 16, which add North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. Recently, the Membership of ASCE voted to approve a new governance structure. See the Proposed Governance Changes page for more information.
Several districts are beginning their transitions into regions. District Directors are responsible for setting up Region Formation Teams to address how each region will operate (they will not necessarily be the same). It will take several years for the transition to take place. Nebraska is now part of Region 7 - for more information, read the Region 7 Governing Documents. These documents detail the changes for the Nebraska Section and the surrounding area.
See the Region 7 website here.
Younger Member Conferences
The 2005 Younger Member Leadership Symposium (YMLS) was held in LA with the Annual Conference. A new format was introduced with the YM Pre-Conference program. The 2006 Zone III Leadership Conference (Houston, TX; Feb 17-19) was the last "Zone III" conference - next year's event (which combines the Younger Member Council, the Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders, and the Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders) will be held in Milwaukee, WI for Regions 3, 6, and 7. (Nebraska is in Region 7.) The 2006 Annual Conference and YMLS is scheduled for Chicago this coming October. Contact us if you're interested in more information or attending.
National Links
A lot of information is available on www.asce.org - here are some items of interest to YMs:
The most recent issue of the Younger Member Newsletter - Issue 57 (published by the Committee on Younger Members)
Committee on Academic Prerequisites for Professional Practice (CAP^3) - the committee investigating how to implement Policy Statement 465. If you've heard "Bachelors + 30" or "Masters of Equivalent" or "Body of Knowledge" - the Education for Professional Practice page should help clear up your questions. The most recent version of the "Raise the Bar" newsletter is available here.
The Mead Ethics contest is a competition open to students and Younger Members (two winners - one selected from each). This year's topic and information is available through the national site. See our Awards Information page for additional information.
