Key Alert - ASCE Opposes Suspension of Federal Motor Fuels User Fee ("gas tax")
Gov. Heineman signed LB 904 into law on April 12th. The revenue now directed to the Highway Allocation Fund will be distributed equally between municipalities and counties for road construction and maintenance.

PEC Legislative Update (Mar. 24, 2006)
March 1, 2006. The Revenue Committee voted 6-2 to advance LB 904 to the Legislature floor. The bill, introduced by Sen. Tom Baker, would move a half cent of the sales tax on motor vehicles to the Highway Trust Fund for road construction. PEC supports this legislation, however, an amendment about distribution was added and PEC has not finished reviewing it yet.
PEC Legislative Update (Feb. 22, 2006) *Follow Up* (Feb. 27, 2006)
PEC testified in support of LB 814 on Feb. 15, 2006. This bill would increase fuel tax to enhance funding available to cities, counties, and the state for road/street construction projects.
LB 1147 indefinitely postponed (2/14/06). LB 359, which would only repeal the requirement that the Director of Natural Resources be a Professional Engineer, is still in committee.
PEC testifies against LB 1147 (Feb. 2, 2006)
LB 1147 would repeal Neb. Rev. Stat. Section 61-201 (qualifications for Director of Natural Resources in Nebraska). One of these requirements is that the director be a licensed professional engineer. Omaha World Herald editorial (may require site registration)

The Health & Human Services Committee voted to indefinitely postpone (kill) LB 547. Thanks for contacting your senators in the effort to defeat this bill. (Mar. 4, 2005)
LB 547 is being held in the Health & Human Services committee - more than likely it will not be advanced. However, since it is "inactive" but not indefinitely postponed, PEC will continue to monitor any developments. Future updates will be posted. (Feb. 11, 2005)
